為電影《馬丁路德金-夢想之路》Selma為電影創作的歌曲Glory獲得2015年第87屆奧斯卡最佳原創電影歌曲，兩位得獎者Common & John Legend的得獎感言真切地傳達世人為民主奮鬥的精神以及對國際社會依然為民主、自由掙扎的關懷。

Common在領取獎座後談到了馬丁·路德·金思想與當前世界各地民主運動的關聯，其中用上了1965年金氏在阿拉巴馬州塞爾瑪鎮帶領群眾走過的那道橋作為比喻。金氏當年帶領群眾遊行支持《選舉權法》，震撼美國全國。
Common說：「這道橋的精神把小孩子們聯繫起來，從芝加哥南區希望改善生活的那些，到法國希望為言論自由站起來的那些，到香港為民主而示威的那些。」
「這道橋是以希望建成，用熱情焊接成，用對普世人類的大愛升起來。」
約翰傳奇補充說：「如Nina Simone所言，藝術家有責任反映我們生活其中的時代，我們這首歌是寫給一部發生在50年前的電影，但講述的公義抗爭是今天在發生著的。」
John Legend & Common的得獎感言正是反映出音樂人深厚的內涵，他們對自己國家的關懷，對世界各地同樣爭取民主人權運動的關切，說明他們為何能夠創作出這麼動人的音樂，他們清楚自己身為公眾人物、身為藝術家的社會責任，而那得獎感言將會一直流傳下去。
這段演講深深地打動我，台灣這幾年從大埔抗爭、太陽花運動、反核大遊行後，政治話題受到高度關切，隨後而來的幾個電影、音樂典禮，有電影人、音樂人奮而為民主發聲，也有許多人覺得藝術不應該牽涉政治，對於那些覺得自己多清高的藝術創作者，你們愧為藝術家，事實上，所有事情都受到政治的牽動！當你們背棄導致人們掙扎痛苦的最大議題與根源時，你們就背棄身為藝術家的責任。無論設計、藝術如果脫離對社會議題的關懷，就失去觸碰人心的溫度，更無法擴展作品的生命力。
戴立忍導演在台北電影節為大埔發聲，肯定很多為社會議題上街頭的導演們，在各個重大議題裡，幾乎都可以看到這些導演站台發聲，從持續兩年多五六運動反核、太陽花運動、大埔抗爭等，很驕傲台灣有一群這麼關注社會與堅信民主、自由、平等價值的導演們。

金恩博士在美國帶領黑人爭取平權，他的貢獻不只侷限在美國，同時帶給全世界對於人權的重大啟發與省思。
香港雨傘運動在本屆奧斯卡受到關注，學聯秘書長周永康：「無論在民主的國家或是不民主的國家，其實希望維持特權的當權者都是愚蠢的，他們都會用無比殘酷的暴力，去對待那些希望爭取公平公義的示威者、希望爭取公平公義的人。在美國如是、在香港如是，當今在香港『雨傘運動』後，大家都會想香港未來的出路、或是香港未來的抗爭方式，我們應該走哪條路呢？ 而其他國家的例子：美國60年代公民運動，說不定能給我們一個很好的啓示。」

旋律和歌詞都相當的激勵人心，同時向美國黑人人權運動家致敬，
包含1960年代Rosa Parks 拒絕讓座給白人，掀起全國的黑人平權抗爭。
